The Princeton Prize in Race
Relations Philadelphia Committee was pleased to recognize Mayra Zavala
Zavala from Kennett Square High School as the recipient of the
Philadelphia 2012 Princeton Prize in Race Relations. Ms. Zavala has
worked tirelessly to bring together disparate community members through
the building of a community garden. Her efforts have encouraged
community members to see their similarities more than their differences.
We were also pleased to award Certificates of Accomplishment to Ms.
Aresema Thomas and Mr. Leander Berry for their efforts towards breaking
down barriers between racial groups. For this years Awards Ceremony, the
Committee was very honored to have as our keynote speaker, Deputy Mayor
Richard Negrin (Managing Director of the City of Philadelphia). We loved the strong Princeton community showing at our Awards
Ceremony which not only to highlighted and recognized the significance of the
efforts undertaken by these three young women and men, but to also show
the City of Philadelphia our interest as a Club in being part of the
civic dialogue.
